Frequently Asked Questions About Pledges and Donations
What is the difference between a donation and a pledge? A donation is a one-time gift to the organization. A pledge is a promise to donate a certain amount of money over a certain amount of time.
Why would I want to make a pledge instead of a donation? Although all gifts are very welcome, pledges help us plan ahead. If we know what our income will be ahead of time, we can create a budget and use your donations strategically.
What is the Voices of Truth Society? Truth Be Told established three funds for large pledges promised over the next 5 years. The Voice of Teri fund is for donors pledging $1,000 per year. The Voice of Melinda fund is for donors pledging $5,000 per year. Teri and Melinda are two currently active graduates of Truth Be Told’s programs who represent different aspects of the women Truth Be Told serves. The Voice of Virginia fund is for donors pledging $10,000 per year. Virginia Geck was a devoted volunteer who passed away in early 2005. We call donors pledging at these levels the Voices of Truth Society.
If I make a pledge, how do I pay it? Please send pledge payments by check to Truth Be Told; PO Box 161763; Austin, TX 78716. Periodically Truth Be Told will send you reminders to those behind on pledge payments.
How can I setup automatic payment of my pledge? If you use online banking to pay your bills, you can setup automatic payment of your pledge. For example, with BillPay, you would add Truth Be Told as a payee. You will need our mailing address and the phone number (512-292-6200). Then you setup your payment date, amount, and frequency. Your pledge payment is automatically deducted from your account in the manner that you have designated, and your bank mails a check to Truth Be Told.
What are the benefits of automatic payment? Automatic payments allow Truth Be Told to use donations more efficiently, with more of the money going toward programs rather than on administrative costs.
Is my donation or pledge tax-deductible? Yes. In January 2007, Truth Be Told will send an annual receipt to each support who donated in 2006. If you made a pledge, your receipt will reflect the amount actually received in 2006. Save your receipt for your tax return. The entire amount of your donation is tax deductible.
